Family, Children & Youth Ministries

Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Ministries

aFamily matters at HCPC because family matters to God. We believe that ministry to families is key to an individual’s relationship with God. There are three biblical mandates rooted in our approach to family ministry: The Great Commission found in Matthew 28 to make disciples by teaching obedience to God’s commands as well as The Greatest Commandment found in the gospels of Matthew & Mark to love God with our all and love others. The third is from Deuteronomy 6:4-9 known as the Shema where it instructs us to hear God’s commands, hold them close to our hearts, and impress them on the children. It is the biblical code for parents and the Church in raising up the next generation of believers. When the Church can come alongside parents and children alike to teach and train the importance of becoming a disciple by knowing and obeying God’s commands, then we can encourage and celebrate their efforts to obey the greatest command to love God by loving others. At HCPC, we desire to glorify God and renew lives; one way we hope to do that is through FAMILY MINISTRY to parents, children, & youth. We want to love families by strengthening marriages, equipping parents, and building confidence in the next generation about their faith in God and following Jesus.

MAKING DISCIPLES. We approach the desire to make disciples by providing multiple channels to grow in God.  On Sundays, we have services both at 9am (in the gym) and 10:15 (in the sanctuary). We encourage families to worship together, so children are welcome to be in service with their parents if they desire.  In fact, during the 10:15 service, children will start in the sanctuary until they are dismissed to their classes. During the week, you will find a number of ministries that you can connect with in order to grow as a disciple.  We have Bible Studies, Covenant Groups and Small Groups, men’s & women’s ministries, and several service and outreach ministries just to name a few.

CLASSES. We offer classes for parents, grandparents, and all adults Sundays at 9am in our adult ed building (CLICK HERE for more info).  We also have classes for children and youth both at 9am & 10:15am. Our LITTLES (preschool, pre-K, & K) and our BIGS (1st-5th grades) are going through the same curriculum but tailored to their age while our YOUTH (6th-12th grades) go through a student study that spends more time on the understanding and application of Scripture from their lessons.  Childcare is available in our nursery for 0-2yrs old during both services for all Sundays.

WORSHIP TOGETHER SUNDAYS. We love an inter-generational worship service! On the first Sunday of each month, preschool and older stay in the service for what we call WORSHIP TOGETHER SUNDAYS.  It is a chance for children to know they are part of the worshipping body and allow older generations to pass on their faith to the next.  This is also the Sunday we offer communion, so it gives parents the opportunity to teach their children its meaning and decide when their child is ready to partake in this sacrament.
